DOT LICENCES & AUTHORISATIONS

The kinds of telecom licensing
in India

Under the Telecommunications Act 2023, licences are moving to a new authorisation framework. Here are the main types we guide on — and can help you apply for.

📜

Unified Licence (UL)

The umbrella licence covering multiple service authorisations — the most common route for operators offering more than one service.

OUR DILIGENCE

How we benchmark and audit every partner

Being DoT-approved is the entry ticket, not the finish line. Before any provider earns a place on our platform — and before we advise you on their commercials — we put them through a structured audit.

🏛️
01

Licence verification

We confirm the provider holds the right valid DoT licence or authorisation for the services they sell, and that it’s in good standing.

🛡️
02

Security & compliance

We check adherence to security conditions, lawful interception readiness and data-handling obligations expected under Indian rules.

📊
03

Performance benchmarking

We benchmark uptime, SLAs, coverage and support responsiveness against peers, so you’re compared like-for-like.

💰
04

Commercial fairness

We scrutinise pricing, contract terms and hidden charges, so the commercials we advise on are transparent and competitive.

🏦
05

Financial & track record

We review financial stability, references and delivery history — a licence means little if a vendor can’t deliver and support.

🔄
06

Ongoing review

Approval isn’t permanent — we re-check licence status, compliance and service quality periodically, and act on customer feedback.

Why This Matters

Working with approved vendors isn't bureaucracy — it protects you

An unlicensed or non-compliant provider can be shut down, leaving you scrambling for connectivity, exposed on data and security, and potentially liable. By listing only DoT-approved, audited partners, we make sure the providers we advise on are legitimate, accountable and safe to build your business on.

  • Valid DoT licence or authorisation for every service sold
  • Security and lawful-interception obligations respected
  • Transparent, benchmarked commercials — audited before we advise
  • Continuity you can rely on, not a grey-market risk

Common Questions

DoT, approvals and licensing — explained

Yes, when you use legitimate services. App-to-app calling (WhatsApp, Google Meet and similar) is completely fine, and Wi-Fi Calling is an official feature offered by the mobile operators themselves. For calling regular phone numbers over the internet, you should use licensed, authorised internet-telephony providers rather than unofficial grey-market services — which is exactly what we recommend. We only point you to legitimate options, so your calling stays both legal and reliable. This is general guidance rather than legal advice, and rules can evolve, so we confirm current terms with the provider.

On Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, Wi-Fi Calling (VoWiFi) is generally free — calls come out of your normal plan just as if you were on the mobile network, and you use your own number. You'll usually just enable "Wi-Fi Calling" in your phone's settings while connected to home broadband, on a supported handset and network. It's the single best fix for a home with weak mobile signal: calls route over your reliable WiFi instead of a poor cellular signal, so they're clear and don't drop. We'll check your network and handset support it and walk you through switching it on.

Not reliably — and this is important. VoIP services and calling apps are not a dependable way to reach emergency numbers like 112 or 100. They may fail to connect if your internet is down, and they often can't pass your location to emergency responders the way a mobile call does. For that reason you should never rely on VoIP alone for emergencies — always keep a charged mobile phone as your emergency line. Wi-Fi Calling on your mobile number is generally better here than a standalone VoIP app, but a working mobile remains the safe backup. We always flag this when recommending a VoIP setup.

They suit different needs. VoIP is ideal if you want free calling where mobile signal is weak, cheap international calls, or a flexible number across your devices — all riding on your broadband. A traditional landline (see our Landline / Fixed Line page) makes more sense if you want a permanent fixed home number, rock-solid reliability including in power cuts (copper lines), or a simple phone for elderly relatives. Many homes combine them: Wi-Fi Calling and apps for everyday and international calls, and a fixed line or mobile for reliability. Remember VoIP needs a solid broadband connection — see our Home Internet pages — and prices here are illustrative and change often; this is general guidance, and we confirm current offers with the provider.

Yes. Corporate Hotspot Solutions can support multiple users and devices simultaneously, depending on the selected plan and deployment model.

Consider network coverage, data allowances, security capabilities, support services, scalability, and management features when evaluating providers.

The same way most comparison platforms do: providers pay us when a customer connects through our platform. We’re deliberately transparent about it because it’s the obvious question, and because the incentive matters. We don’t take payment for higher rankings, we don’t hide options that don’t pay us, and our team isn’t targeted on pushing a particular brand. Where two options are close, we tell you they’re close. Where one is clearly better for your situation, we tell you that even if it earns us less.

No. We’re an independent comparison platform, not a reseller for a single operator. We compare across the market — Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL on mobile and home services, and a wide range of vendors across cloud, security and enterprise connectivity. Being independent is also why we’re comfortable telling you when the market leader isn’t your best answer: BSNL can be the value pick where it has coverage, a single good router often beats a three-node mesh in a 2BHK, and sometimes the honest recommendation is to keep exactly what you have.

Both, and the second part is where most of the value sits. We’ll compare the options and explain the trade-offs in plain language, then help you actually get connected — coordinating the provider, the paperwork, installation timelines and, where it applies, porting your number or migrating a service without downtime. For businesses we’ll stay involved through design and delivery. You’re never handed a list of links and left to it.

Only what’s needed to give you a useful recommendation — typically your location or circle, roughly what you use, and how to reach you. Browsing and comparing on the site is anonymous; nothing is shared until you choose to request a quote. We don’t sell your details on, and we handle personal data in line with India’s DPDP Act — you can read the specifics on our Privacy Policy page. If you’d rather just talk it through before sharing anything, call us on 011 4290 8899.

We compare services across India, but availability genuinely varies — fibre depends on which operator has passed your building, 5G FWA depends on the tower nearest you, and mobile coverage differs street by street, which is exactly why we check rather than assume. Tell us your pin code or area and we’ll tell you honestly what’s actually available at your address, including when the answer is “not much yet, and here’s the best alternative.”

That’s most people, and it’s the part we’re best at. You don’t need to arrive knowing whether you want SD-WAN or a leased line, a smart bulb or a smart switch, or whether your family should share a plan. Tell us your situation in plain words — what’s frustrating you, what you spend now, what you’re trying to do — and we’ll work out the options, explain them without jargon, and tell you what we’d do in your position.

OBD campaign success should be measured across four metrics, in order of importance for most Indian use cases. First-attempt connect rate: the percentage of numbers dialled that are answered on the first call. In India, 55–65% is typical across all operators; Airtel and Jio typically connect 5–8% higher than Vi and BSNL on first attempt. Overall campaign reach (after retries): with 2–3 retry attempts over 24–48 hours, overall reach of 82–90% of non-DND numbers is achievable. Message completion rate: the percentage of answered calls where the recipient stayed on the call for the full message duration, rather than hanging up during the message. For well-designed 20–30 second messages in the recipient's preferred language, 70–80% completion is a reasonable benchmark. DTMF response rate (for interactive campaigns): the percentage of answered calls where the recipient pressed a key. 8–18% DTMF response rate on EMI reminder campaigns and 25–40% on appointment confirmation campaigns are typical Indian benchmarks. All listed providers report all four metrics per campaign in their analytics dashboard, not just calls dialled and calls answered.

4K is the sensible default on any TV 43" and above — the detail is clearly better and most content now supports it. HDR (HDR10+, Dolby Vision) often makes a bigger visible difference than resolution alone, improving contrast and colour, so it's worth looking for. A high refresh rate (120Hz) mainly benefits gamers and fast sport. 8K, on the other hand, is hard to justify today — there's very little 8K content and the price premium is steep. Remember too that streaming in 4K needs a solid broadband connection — see our Home Internet pages — and your DTH, IPTV or OTT source (see those pages) has to provide the quality your panel can show. Prices and specs here are illustrative and change often; this is general guidance, and we confirm the current model and price before you buy.
