Less than most people buy. If you're on WiFi at home and at work for much of the day, 1GB to 1.5GB/day is usually plenty for messaging, browsing, maps and some video. If you stream a lot of video or music on mobile data, or you tether other devices, 2GB/day is comfortable and 2.5–3GB/day suits heavy users. Grabbing a 3GB/day plan out of habit when you barely touch 1GB is the single most common way people overpay. Annual usually works out cheaper per month, if you'll stay on the network. A 28-day plan renews thirteen times a year (the 28-day cycle means slightly more than twelve recharges), whereas an annual pack is one payment with a lower effective monthly cost and no recharge reminders. The trade-off is committing a larger amount up front and to one network for the year, so it only makes sense if you're happy with the coverage. Quarterly 84-day plans are a middle ground. It depends entirely on your area, which is exactly why coverage should come before price. There's no single best network across all of India: Jio and Airtel generally have the widest and fastest reach including strong 5G rollout, Vi is competitive in certain circles and cities, and BSNL is often the cheapest but its coverage and speeds vary a lot by location. The plan that looks best on price is a poor deal if you get weak signal at home or on your commute. If you only occasionally run out of data before month-end, a one-off data add-on (booster) pack is usually cheaper than permanently moving to a larger, pricier base plan — but if you run out every single month, upgrading the base plan is better value.
